Leaders of National Garment Workers Federation on Monday
called on factory owners and the owners’ body to take steps to pay wage
and service benefits of the workers of Ayesha and Galia Fashion Limited
immediately. The NGWF made the call at a protest rally in front of
National Press Club in the capital, where they said the factory was
closed by the owners unlawfully on April 13. Garment labour leaders
Mohammad Faroque Khan said that Ayesha and Galia Fashion at Kalyanpur in
the city was closed without paying the wage and benefits of the
workers. The Bangladesh Garment Manufactures and Exporters Association
should take steps to resolve the crisis, Faroque Khan said. Chaired by
Faroque Khan, the rally was addressed, among others, by general
secretary of the organisation Safia Akter, leaders Kabir Hossain,
Tahmina Akter and others.
