Expert
& trade union leaders at a discussion meeting today have urged the
government to stop precarious job in Bangladesh as early as possible. They also
urged all concerned, including the government, to take effective steps to
ensure workplace safety & stop violence against women.

They
made the calls from a discussion meeting organized by National Garment Workers
Federation (NGWF) as part of central program to observe the October 7—“World
Day of Decent Work” this afternoon at 4:00.
NGWF
President Amirul Haque Amin presided over the meeting held at “Shaheed Asad
auditorium” at Topkhana Road in Dhaka city.
Executive Director of Delhi based Center for Workers Management Ms
Dithhi Bhattachariya attended the program as Chief Gust. Those took part in the
discussion included General Secretary of Ekota Garment Sramik Federation
Quamrul Hassan, NGWF General Secretary Ms Safia Parvin, Central leaders Md
Faruque Khan, Ms Arifa Akter, Md Kabir Hossain, Md Rafiqul Islam Rafique, Md
Faridul Islam, Mrs Ranu Begum & Md Sabuz, among others.
The World Day of Decent Work is observed on
October 7 every year throughout the glob since 2008. Main theme of the Day is “Stop
all forms of precarious job.”
The
NGWF leaders said, “The Decent Work” includes workers’ rights to work at a safe
workplace, have living wage and rights to organize or join in trade union.
The
speakers expressed deep concern at the continued increase of precarious jobs in
Bangladesh, while permanent safe & decent jobs are on the reduction
trend.
