Leaders of National Garments Workers Federation, a garment workers right body, at a human chain in the city on Sunday demanded payment of wages and festival allowance of the garment workers within 20th Ramadan.
The NGWF formed an one-hour human chain in front of National Press Club at 11am to press their demands.
Amirul Haque Amin, the president of the organization, called on the Awami League-led government to take steps to pay the wages and bonus of the garment workers within 20th Ramadan.
He also called on the government to take steps for holding meetings with the management and the workers’ leader in all garment factories to avoid labour unrests before Eid-ul-Fitre.
In the past, many factory owners did not pay the wages and the festival allowance in due time, resulting in labour unrests before Eid, Amirul pointed out.
Presided over by Amirul Haque Amin, the human chain rally was addressed, among others, by NGWF general secretary Safia Parvin, central leaders Nurun Nahar, Mohammad Faroque Khan and Arifa Akter.
